What is the f-number? Basically, it's a dimensionless number describing the speed of a lens. The smaller the number, the faster the lens. It is the ratio of a lens's focal length to the diameter of the entrance pupil. It is also called focal ratio, f-ratio, f-stop or relative aperture. |

Beside is a diagram of decreasing apertures from 2.8 to 8 in one-stop increments. Each aperture has half the light gathering area of the previous one.

Equipment: For most of the pictures on my website I used a professional DSLR camera with various lenses. I've been using Canon gear ever since I had my first DSLR camera, an EOS 350D. At the moment I'm shooting with the following cameras/lenses:
